Photo walk with the Olympus Trip 500 - Sidekick Camera

Photo walk with the Olympus Trip 500

New locations, new camera, new film!  This weekend we tested out an Olympus Trip 500 that we just added to the store.  It is a pocket sized point and shoot film camera made by Olympus in the early 2000's.

We'd heard a lot of good things about the experimental 35mm film made by Psych Blues, so we ordered a few rolls and put them to the test with the Olympus Trip 500.  Psych Blues 35mm film is pre-exposed to have artistic light leaks and colors throughout the roll... each image is a surprise!

Our first location for the photo walk was a small historic town east of Austin called Flatonia.  Small towns in Texas are always a gold mine for cool things to photograph and this town was no different.

The Olympus Trip 500 Is Easy To Use

The Olympus Trip 500 proved to be a great choice for this hot day of walking around.  It was incredibly easy to load with film.  Once you have the film ready to go, all you have to do is open up the lens cover and shoot!  The camera automatically turns on and off when you open and close the lens cover.  Not having to fiddle around with settings while walking in 95+ degree weather is a plus!

Our next stop was Smithville, TX.  This small town has caught the eye of artists for several decades.  It was used as a main location for Terrence Malick's 2011 film Tree of Life.

Is Psych Blues Experimental 35mm Film Good?

Since this was our first time shooting Psych Blues film, we weren't sure exactly what to expect.  We were pleasantly surprised with the results!  Each frame had a unique, experimental character.
